On the Road to Hanalei

Yellowfish Trading Company in Hanalei

While it’s true that part of the north shore is off limits due to highway repairs, the road to Hanalei is definitely open.

Hanalei Bay – Consisting of Nearly Two Miles of Beach.

Hanalei Bay Surfing

It’s currently one lane approaching Hanalei Bridge, but wait times are brief since the installation of a temporary traffic light. That means you can still visit one of the most beautiful beaches in the world to swim, snorkel, surf, or just lie under a coco palm… and wonder why you ever have to go home.

There are plenty of “beyond the beach” activities in Hanalei, too. You won’t find chain stores - just wonderfully eclectic boutiques and galleries. Don’t miss Yellowfish Trading Company for Hawaiiana and Sand People for great gifts. And if you need surf gear, Hanalei Surf Company has it all.

When it’s time to fuel-up, tuck into a surfer’s style breakfast at the Hanalei Bread Company. For lunch, we recommend one of Hanalei’s great food trucks. We’re partial to Fresh Bite Kauai followed by an icy treat at Wishing Well Shave Ice.

And if you’re on the road to Hanalei in the evening, try Ama, an Asian-inspired “Cevicheria,” or Bar Acuda for tapas and wine. After dinner, head to Tahiti Nui, Kauai's legendary watering hole, for music, dancing, and Mai Tais.

Hale Malie Kai Cottage, MLS 628773, is just steps from Hanalei Bay - read my blog about it to learn more.
